APPLICATION
History
Established in 2008, The Dream Scholarship Fund was created to provide African American males from Chicago the opportunity to attend college. Monies attained for The Dream Scholarship Fund are designated to Jackson State University in an effort to assist students with their books and tuition.
Lorri Stacker, a graduate of Jackson State University recognized the alarming college graduation rates of African American males. Her passion for education and drive for making a difference in the community motivated her to start the non-profit organization. Stacker has worked in education since 2001, dedicating her life to uplifting minority youth to achieve their dreams.
Purpose
The Dream Scholarship Fund scholarships are awarded to African American males from Chicago attending Jackson State University. The scholarships are given out for books and tuition. Funds can be a burden while attending college, we want to allow students the opportunity to be more focused on getting an education and not how they are going to pay for it.
Requirements
- Submit an official academic transcript
- Acceptance letter from Jackson State University if you are an entering freshman or transfer student (Juniors: letter of enrollment)
- Award letter of financial aid
- Completion of typed essay
Topic: What is the plight of African American males? How can you make a difference in your community?
- Three letters of recommendation
One must be from a teacher/ professor, who can attest to your academic capabilities
- A recent photograph suitable for publication
AWARDS
Scholarships are awarded each semester. Amounts will vary.
THE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS JULY 1, 2008 AND NOVEMBER 1, 2008. Finalists must participate in a face-to-face or telephone interview
